Nicaragua remains one of the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Bordered by Costa Rica on the South and Honduras on the North, Nicaragua is the largest country in the heart of Central America. Nicaragua has a tropical climate alternating between two seasons: winter and summer.

Managua
Managua is the capital of Nicaragua. The centre of Managua was destroyed by an earthquake in 1972. There were more damage during the civil wars of 1978- 1979.
According to the most recent estimate by the World Bank report dated 8/25/05, 48% of the population in Nicaragua lives below the national poverty line. 44% of the children under the age of 5 in the low-income bracket have some degree of malnutrition. (latest year available, 1998-2004)
