Hi guys, recently my friends and I had a get-together for a friend who's leaving to Berkeley, so we decided to go for something different - Colombian food. The restaurant we went to happened to be owned by the stepmom of my friend, so good service was expected =) Anyways, The Golden Maize, located on 264 N. Glassell St. in Orange, serves homemade cuisine of South America (you can say homemade again 'coz all the food are prepared by her step grandmother). It's a small, cozy restaurant that looks like a Victorian-style house from the outside.
As you step inside, you notice the beautiful flowers and candles on the tables and there was this warm aura about the place. We started with a lemon-herb vinaigrette salad that tasted like the best salad I've ever had! Our dinner entrees include Colombian style steak, Stuffed Chicken Breast, Chicken a la Claudia (Claudia's the owner), and more. Most entrees include rice (very tasty! YUM!), potatoes, and plantain (a kind of cooked banana). Everything has its individual special taste. And for dessert, we had caramel flan and pastel les treches (it's a cake dressed with sweet condensed milk). They were delicious! But there is a drawback, we had to wait about 45 minutes until the food comes because they had to be made fresh from scratch (and we had a large group too). However, I think it's worth it. Some things to remember though, The Golden Maize opens only from 5pm-9pm (they close on Mondays), price range is about $11-$18. To reduce the waiting time, you can call them prior to your arrival too at (714)532-5955. I recommend this place for a date or any special event =)
